Safe & Sound

For some time, my laptop has been reminding me that my Internet Security software has expired and I need to renew my subscription before my life implodes in my hands.  I have been quickly closing the window and burying my head in the sand.  I class anti-virus software as something similar to car insurance whereby you pay for it grudgingly thinking you’ll never need it… only with the laptop, it’s not a legal requirement to buy the ‘insurance’.

I had been wondering whether software that scans for viruses is obsolete.  But having read various articles today explaining why I should have software installed, I am thinking the nominal fee to protect my files is probably worth coughing up….

My thinking is that even when the Cloud technology is at its peak (why do I hear the Toy Story aliens all ‘ooooooh-ing’ when I refer to the Cloud?), it’s not just my documents and files which are at stake.  I need a computer to read them all from right?  While I can back-up all of my information using various means, I need to still protect the facilitating vessel for making use of all this data held in the sky.  I guess because of this it’s time for me to stop hiding the renewal notification and stump up the money.  After all, it’s not always other people bad things happen to and I’m definitely better safe than sorry.  The version of me without access to the Internet isn’t something any of you want to be party to :)
